A stunning shield from the Maasai tribe of Kenya, the shield is constructed with a high degree of craftmanship and intricately designed blurring the lines between utilitarian and fine art. The maasai shield is made of buffalo hide, sewn to a wooden frame and a wooden handle wrapped in leather attached to the centre of the back of convex frame. The shield is decorated with natural pigmentation and patterns (Sirata) early 19th century, neasurements are H 103cm x W 60cm.
